09/09/2005 Entry: "New phone"

Yes, it's that time of the year when the 12 month contract finishes and we have the option of upgrading our mobile phones.
For quite a while now i have been moaning about the quality of service from 3 and had been threatening to quit 3 as soon as my 12 month obligation to them ceased. In the later part of my contract though i came to realise that 3's service is actually not that bad and that the main 'issue' seems to be with these bloody LG phones.
3G have a lot of new phones on the market now, some from very respected mobile phone manufacturers (Nokia, Motorola to name 2) and i have decided to 'trial' the new Motorola A1000 for 7 days before deciding if i should go through the hassle of changing service provider.
I've never had a PDA before and this phone is as close to one as you can get without it actually being one and my first impressions are that its a very good phone, my biggest gripe so far is that i have not figured out how to set MP3's that i have downloaded from the PC as ringtones, you can download them from 3's website but it'll cost you £3.50 and the quality ain't that good...and the handbook is not in depth enough so offers no insight past 'connect handset to pc via USB cable'.
Apart from that this phone is excellent, and i just found out that it supports Navicore, a new GPS Sat Nav system for smart phones and half the price of the ones i was looking at and removes the need for me to actually buy a separate PDA just for navigation.
So it looks like i will stick with this phone and 3G and with the reduced tariff i now have as well, it should keep me happy for the next 12 months.

I looked a 3 myself seemed ok so I called Orange to cancel my contract. They girl on the phone enquired why so i told her that they were too expecive. She strait away looked at my account and said that she could cut my bill in half and I could have a new phone for free. Im now paying £20 a month line rental with 150 free mins and 120free texts im well pleased and my new shiney Nokia arrives next week smile

Thats the way to do it bud, there's so much competition because of mobile saturation in the market place that they are fighting tooth and nail to keep your business...if they don't play ball find a network that will wink
